sbDelilah "Zena" Salgado is a Mexican-American artist born and raised on the South West Side of Chicago, Illinois. She is a multidisciplinary artist, educator, feminist, mother, wife, poet, curator and co-founder of the Mujeres Mutantes Art Collective. Her art is influenced by: Graffiti, Street and Mexican Folk Art, Anime, mythology, tattoos, and comics. Through her love of Graffiti and Hip Hop she pursued an art career at S.A.I.C. Although she did not finish art school she went on to teach Graffiti and Street Art at a non profit organization called ElevArte Community Studio, and most notably founded the first “We Are Hip Hop Festival” in the Pilsen community. Her murals and paintings are mixed media on canvas which consist of bold vivid colors, organic designs, and women characters who are the embodiment of spiritual nature. They evolve through self reflection and have reached enlightenment thereby opening their third eye. They are ancient and modern women living a new mythology constructing and developing new stories in order to reclaim what was lost "their original selves”. Through the teachings of Joseph Campbell she has discovered that it is only through myths that we are able to learn about our collective consciousness, and ultimately know who we are as a people and as individuals.
